What to Expect

We look forward to welcoming you to Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church on Sunday mornings! We know that setting foot in a new church can be exciting but also intimidating. Here are some consistencies you can come to expect when attending worship at GA:

  • All are welcome – no exceptions.
  • We offer two worship services each Sunday of the program year; 9:00am Sanctuary Worship and 11:15 New Life Worship in Luther Hall.  In the summer, we offer a single worship service at 10:00am.
  • During the program year, we offer chapel-worship services on Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm.
  • We offer communion at all Sunday services and some Wednesday evening services.  Communion is available to all.
  • People are welcome to dress however they wish; some dress formally while others wear jeans.  We want you to be comfortable so that you can be engaged with us.
  • Most services are offered in person and via livestream.

OUR SERVICES

Sanctuary Worship

Our Sanctuary Worship services follow traditional Lutheran liturgy found in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal.  This service features hymns, psalms, and anthems and is typically led by pipe organ, piano, and choir.  At times, other instrumental or vocal soloists may contribute to worship.  A bulletin containing all notated music, readings, and prayers, is provided to all!

New Life Worship

Our New Life Worship services follow the general structure of Lutheran liturgy using updated language and a laid-back, community-driven atmosphere.  This service features worship songs and contemporary hymns, and is typically led by guitar, piano, percussion, and a small group of vocalists.  A worship supplement is provided to all and words to music and prayer are projected on a screen!

Chapel Worship

Our Chapel Worship services follow a Lutheran service such as Holden Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen, Joyous Light by Ray Makeever, or other services developed by our worship planning team.  This service is led either by piano or guitar and are community-focused.
